Presentation: Security Implications of Emerging Cloud Technologies

Australian organisations are operating in a demanding cyber threat environment. Any critical infrastructure, health, or Government organisation faces this challenge. The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has been moving their advice from a “compliance” ruleset to more flexible guidance working with Cloud Service Providers (CSP’s). IRAP assessments are provided on selected cloud services, but new technologies are rapidly emerging. How do organisations respond in practical terms? Alistair will walk through practical setups, stages and key steps in preventing, detecting and responding to incidents in the cloud and how to plan for emerging capabilities in a secure fashion.

Speaker: Alistair Nicholson, Managing Principal at Nicholson Consulting, and President, ISACA Canberra Chapter

Alistair Nicholson is an active Cyber Security practitioner. He has developed guidance for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure hosted facilities across various Federal Government agencies based on his extensive industry experience. Alistair is the current ISACA Canberra Chapter President, and is an independent Board member of a Commonwealth Agency Risk, Audit and Finance committee, contributing his 25+ years of ICT, cybersecurity, and governance experience. Alistair has recently passed the new IRAP exam and holds his CISA and CISM certifications.
