Topic: IoT: An IT Security and Privacy Perspective
The presentation provides an orientation to the wide topic of the Internet of Things (IoT) and an understanding of information technology security and privacy concerns. Areas reviewed include: Symantec’s Internet Security Threat Report (ISTR), ENISA’s Baseline Security Recommendations for IoT report, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Strategic Principles for Securing IoT, and the IoT Council’s IoT Policy Guidance. The benefits of IoT will be discussed along with the threats, risks, attack vectors, and incident examples as they relate to businesses and persons. Recommendations and sources for more information will be provided for businesses, IoT devices, software, servers, network infrastructure, communications, vendors, and the IoT supply chain. Various architectures and new technologies such as Edge, Fog, and Mist computing will be discussed as well as how they fit in with the IoT ecosystem. The presentation is intended for information security and privacy officers, managers, analysts, assessors, and anyone interested in learning about this growing field of computer applications.
