The changing nature of the threat landscape means there is an urgent need to strengthen the UK’s Cyber Security and Resilience
• The focus of the policy statement on strengthening the resilience of supply chains, the bringing of Managed Service Providers under the umbrella of regulation and the recognition that data centres are now a part of our critical national infrastructure are to be welcomed.
• The challenge is to ensure that seeking better cyber security resilience regulation doesn’t have the unintended effect of stifling innovation and creating onerous or bureaucratic obstacles especially for small and medium sized enterprises. There is also a need for the government to recognise that it is government itself which often the most vulnerable part of the system as the recent NAO report made clear in its recent report.
• It also needs to be recognised that legislation and regulation will not, in isolation, solve this problem. Alongside the legislation there needs to be an intensified effort to embed cyber security and resilience awareness, processes and practices into heart of our society with a shared understanding of the threat and shared determination to resist it.
Please note, for those members who hold an ISACA certification, attendance for the full session provides 1 CPE.
