President’s Corner- October 2019

Dear Fellow Members,

What’s coming is better than what is gone…

Fall is here and October is the National Cyber Security Awareness Month, which has been created as a collaborative effort between the National Cyber Security Division within the Department of Homeland Security and the nonprofit National Cyber Security Alliance, to raise awareness about the importance of cyber security.

As part of the Cyber Security Awareness month, the IIA ISACA Chicago Hacking Conference is back and has been scheduled for October 28- 29, offering 16 CPEs. This year’s theme addresses emerging threats by discussing solutions and how the orchestration of Audit, InfoSec, Risk &Compliance departments creates a strong force, allowing the united enterprise to strike back against cyber threats.

We are truly excited to provide ongoing programs that meet the developmental and educational needs of our members. Our CISA Review course is in full swing and the two days seminar on Auditing Business Application Systems is scheduled for October 21st and October 22nd. This two-day seminar is designed for financial, operational and information technology auditors who need to perform business application audits.  Focusing on a top-down, risk-based approach you will learn how to assess key risks and controls in each stage of the application processing cycle and how to prioritize your audit approach to achieve optimal results in an effective and efficient manner.

Please note the location for our October monthly chapter meeting at the 2 Prudential Plaza, featuring Kevin Charest, PhD, DSVP and Chief Information Security Officer at HCSC on Cloud Security topic.

On October 18th, we are sponsoring a Student Event at UIC-University of Illinois at Chicago to bring awareness of our chapter programs, and the academic scholarship we are offering every year.

We applaud the amazing CommunITy Day on October 5th. ISACA Chicago volunteers made a difference in our community by supporting two Feed my Starving Children events, Walk/ run for autism, packing at the Chicago Food Depository, hosting a birthday party at the Little Brothers- friends of the Elderly and walking over 280 miles for Charity Miles. The enormous impact of Kindness resonates long after the act- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to all volunteers!

Genuine Kindness is the ultimate strength in both business and life.

Warm wishes,
