Developing an AI Governance Program explores how organizations can responsibly design, deploy, and scale artificial intelligence in an environment where innovation is moving faster than policy, regulation, and oversight. AI now influences decisions about people, money, healthcare, hiring, and public trust, governance becomes essential. Governance is not a brake on innovation, but rather a strategic enabler.
This topic examines how to build a practical, scalable AI governance program that embeds ethics into the AI lifecycle, clarifies accountability, manages risk, and supports transparency across AI-driven decisions. It connects emerging regulations, industry frameworks, and ethical principles to real operational realities, addressing challenges such as continuously learning models, evolving data, shifting regulatory expectations, and societal impacts. Laura is a seasoned leader in digital safety with more than 26 years of experience across the military, government, and private sector. At Kaiser Permanente, she directs efforts that help keep people and organizations safe online—reducing risk, strengthening cloud security, and managing exposure in practical, business-friendly ways.
In parallel, Laura continues her service in the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a Flight Commander, bringing the discipline, teamwork, and mission focus of military leadership to every challenge.
A longtime community builder, Laura is the founding and current President of the Northern Colorado ISSA Chapter and is the Vice President of ISSA International. Through these roles, she has championed member engagement, chapter support, career growth, and accessible cybersecurity education.
Laura is a recognized speaker who translates complex topics into clear, actionable insights. She has delivered talks at national conferences and universities and leads multi-day workshops that help organizational leaders navigate responsible AI—without the jargon.
Passionate about mentorship, diversity, and neurodiversity, Laura invests deeply in early career talent and fosters inclusive environments where every voice is valued. Over her career, she has guided modernization initiatives and secure application development for commercial and government partners. She holds industry credentials including CISSP and IAPP CIPM, and is known for combining technical understanding with strategic, people-first leadership.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how audits and cybersecurity reviews are performed, offering unprecedented speed in data analysis, anomaly detection, and control mapping. Yet as AI becomes embedded in assessment workflows, human judgment, ethical reasoning, and contextual risk assessment are more critical than ever to safeguard audit integrity. This session, co-presented by an AI specialist (Trenta.ai) and a cybersecurity audit practitioner (RubinBrown), will explore how to balance automation and efficiency with professional skepticism, provide governance models for human-in-the-loop assurance, and highlight the skills auditors need to thrive in an AI-augmented future.

Rob leads the Cyber Security Services team for RubinBrown. He has more than 25 years of information security experience in security reviews, mitigation, strategy, and architecture development. He consults with clients on a variety of information security projects, ranging from penetration testing to security assessments to the implementation of security architectures. His background includes security work for the Air Force, NSA, Pentagon, and PwC. Formerly serving as a Chief Information Security Officer, Rob brings strategic consulting expertise balanced with a voice of reason. Rob currently holds the following certifications: CISSP, ISSMP, CCSP, CISA, QSA, AWS Certified Security - Specialty, CMMC CCP, and PMP.
