Organizations of all sizes and across industries continue to be challenged with managing the risk and impacts of ransomware attacks. One of the greatest challenges ransomware attacks present is the wide range of possible attackers and attack vectors. Based on a 2020 Ransomware Resiliency report, 66% of companies estimate it would take five or more days to recover from a ransomware attack if they didn’t pay the ransom, which comes with a hefty cost. Gartner finds that downtime can be as much as $300,000 per hour on average. As ransomware attacks continue to rise, developing a methodical approach to strategize, plan, prevent, identify, research, resolve and report ransomware attacks is critical to mitigating the inherent risks and impacts posed by ransomware effectively. Internal audit can then help validate the adequacy of the Company’s capabilities to prevent Ransomware attacks and plans to respond.
