Synopsis

In recent years, technology advancement has been a phenomenon by which modern-day education has benefited. The role of technology in modern education goes beyond the aspects of curriculum design and pedagogical principles, it also borders around understanding learners’ characteristics, aspirations and considering their corresponding effective factors, which include internal and ecological factors. This talk covers the multifaceted application of technology in multidimensional ways to enhance different aspects of education, particularly in Higher Education. Also, principles of engagement including behavioural, emotional and cognitive are also being considered using the technology realm.

Speaker Bio

Femi Isiaq - My career commenced in the industry, working for multinational companies including Eon UK and Siemens Enterprise and Communication Limited. As a software engineer at Siemens Enterprise Communication Limited, I had the opportunity to work on various clients' project including software systems development for companies such as Rolls Royce, Bosch, etc. Even I do work for multinational companies where there are ranging project opportunities, my 'thirst-for-knowledge' trait is never been satisfied - i.e., I like to know more and after more, what next, more and more again!

The drive of seeking and dissemination of knowledge, particularly new knowledge led me into academics. Moving on to academics, I decided to enrol on a scholar apprenticeship through a PhD program in Semantic Web, Computing and Artificial Intelligence. Subsequently, I took on a teaching role at Nottingham Trent International College where I was able to help numerous students with their progression into the university, especially students with international backgrounds. Much later, I proceeded as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University where I teach, mentor students, create curriculum and pedagogical activities and supervised research projects among other responsibilities.

I carry out academic responsibilities including the design and delivery of research-informed teaching, supervision and mentoring of postdoctoral candidates on research projects and knowledge exchange transfer activities amongst other things. In the last few years, my research interest and work stood on a tripod of technological application in Education, Health and Business. This include works in areas such as Decision Support Systems, technological application for mental health management, Educational support and intervention and Business Processes improvement etc.

This is a joint event with the BCS Hampshire Branch, BCS e-Learning SGs and Southampton Solent University, and is part of the British Science Week
