During this workshop you’ll come away with knowledge of the terminology used on IBM i, what forms the foundation of IBM i Security along with best practice settings.  As an administrator, you’ll learn the tasks to perform on a regular basis to make sure your system stays secured according to your policies.  And as an auditor, you’ll learn about the areas of the system that need to be audited and the corresponding reports to request.

 

Agenda

  • What is an IBM i?
    • A short discussion of the evolution of the system (from AS/400 to iSeries to IBM i) and the features that set it apart from most operating systems.
  • IBM i Security – the Basics
    • Three areas of the system form the foundation of IBM i security – system values, user profiles and object authorities (access control settings.)   These areas will be described and best practice settings for each discussed.
  • Best Practices for Security Administration and Auditing an IBM i
    • This session will describe the recommended actions that security administrators should be taking on a regular basis to reduce risk and ensure settings aren’t in a state that leave the system vulnerable.   The settings auditors will want to pay attention to when auditing an IBM i will also be discussed including how to ask for reports to make sure you get the information you expect.
