Suspension of In-Person Chapter Meetings

In light of current data and after doing due diligence, the ISACA Huntsville Chapter Board has made the decision to suspend in-person chapter events for the foreseeable future due to the current Covid Delta variant transmission risk.

I know some will disagree with this decision, and I understand your concern. However, when I think of the most important lesson that I have learned from ISACA and from its axiom in management (e.g., CISM), it is that in all things we say and do day-to-day to secure, maintain systems and grow organizations, human life is always the right answer. As David Samuelson, ISACA’s CEO said, “People are our top priority.” Our members are the core of our all-volunteer organization, and we will not stray far if we use that as our guiding principle.

This is hardly the type of message I would have liked to put out as my first communication as chapter president. After all, I was looking forward to meeting each of you in person and getting back to some semblance of normalcy.

This decision will only be temporary while we continue to monitor the situation, and as things improve, we will adapt accordingly.

Still, this is an opportunity for the chapter to think creatively about how we interact and what type of value we bring to each member beyond simply a meeting and a hot, delicious lunch. We have a lot of great ideas and new energy in the chapter and its growing board.

I am looking forward to shaking your hand (like old times prior to 2020, a hundred years ago!).

Yours sincerely,

Kevin Cedeno
