Presentation will provide an overview of the camp and how interested companies can engage to improve the educational experience as well as meet their future employees.

Background: In 2017, Cyber Huntsville approached the USSRC about building a camp experience for students build around Cyber Security that mimics the Space Camp programming highlighting space exploration and engineering. Partnering with University of Alabama Huntsville’s Center for Cybersecurity, the USSRC developed a five-day immersive camp aimed at high school students. To date, the program has worked with over 300 students from across the country, and is expanding offerings and capacity of the program in 2020, with a middle school curriculum on the horizon. The program benefits from an active engagement with the cyber community in Huntsville, has two founding corporate partners in Sentar and Dynetics, and is in the process of establishing formal relationships with the FBI and InfraGard.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Kay Taylor is the Director of Education at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, overseeing educational programming at the Smithsonian-affiliate Rocket Center and Space Camp, the world leader in immersive, space-science STEM education. She has been the lead on developing the U.S. Cyber Camp.  In addition to overseeing educational programming, Taylor leads the Rocket Center’s educational partnerships among academia, industry and government entities. A native of Albertville, Alabama, her father was a contracting officer at MSFC for 30 years. She grew up thinking everyone talked about space at the dinner table. Originally a journalist, she holds mass communication degrees from Auburn, Georgia and Alabama, and taught at the collegiate level in the University Systems of Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina. She has been with the Center since 2014.
