Presentation Topic:
The Cybersecurity Paradox: Prioritising System Protection While Neglecting the Human Factor
Today, cybersecurity is at the top of every boardroom agenda. We invest billions in defending networks, encrypting data, and deploying ever more sophisticated technologies. Yet, paradoxically, while we focus so intensely on protecting our systems, we often overlook our most vulnerable asset — ourselves.
Human fatigue, stress, poor mental wellbeing, and cognitive overload are quietly undermining the very security we seek to strengthen. In this interactive session, we will confront this critical paradox: how our failure to prioritise the human element is becoming a growing threat vector — and why safeguarding people must now be seen as fundamental to cybersecurity resilience.
Speaker:

Nalin Wijetilleke MBA, CISA, CGEIT, FBCI, MInstD Managing Director – Continuity NZ
The presenter is a highly experienced professional in security, risk management and business resilience, with a wide international experience. He was inducted into the ISACA Hall of Fame in 2022. His engagement with ISACA spans almost 25 years, where he has acted as a trainer, speaker, mentor, chapter leader, and influencer.
He will address the disconnect between organizational systems and people. As we know, the exploitation of human psychology is the greatest cybersecurity threat. However, is there sufficient work being done to mitigate this risk, and why does it continue to persist?
