Dear ISACA Auckland Chapter Members,
The ISACA Auckland Chapter is pleased to announce our next after-hours hybrid event, to be held from 5pm to 8pm (NZDT) on Wednesday, Feb 26,2025.
Topic:
Digital Identity - A Journey to a Safer World
Identity crime is a significant threat in New Zealand and throughout the rest of the world. More than 20% of Kiwi’s have reportedly fallen victim to digital identity theft at some point in their life and the cost to the New Zealand economy is counted in the hundreds of millions of dollars and rising.
The Latitude Financial (GEM Visa) breach was one of the biggest data breaches affecting 1.3 million Kiwis in March 2023. In May 2021, digital identity theft resulted a ransomware attack on the Waikato District Health Board (WDHB). It took nearly six months for WDHB to restore the systems compromised by the attacker and address the backlog of surgeries and appointments.
This talk will look at the Human Factor in Digital Identity and outline why traditional methods of Identification are outdated in the modern digital world. We emphasize the need to retire passwords for good and explain why passkeys are the answer to a vast amount of digital fraud by putting a definitive end to phishing. We will look at what to expect of Digital Identity in the coming years with specific focus on NIST Special Publication 800-63-4 and its application in the government sector.
