When AI Becomes the Actor: Cybersecurity, Risk and Trust in the Age of Agentic AI with Rita Arrigo

When:  Tue, Oct 6, 2026 from 17:15 to 19:30 (AEST)
Associated with  Melbourne Chapter

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing both sides of the cybersecurity equation. Generative AI is making deepfakes, phishing, scams and social engineering more convincing and scalable. Agentic AI takes this further, introducing systems that can reason, plan, access tools, make decisions and take actions with increasing autonomy. For organisations, this creates a new class of risk: what happens when AI is no longer simply generating content, but acting within our digital environments?

This session explores the evolving intersection of AI, cybersecurity, risk and trust, translating emerging threats into practical considerations for leaders across cyber, governance, assurance and risk.

Rita Arrigo will examine how AI is changing the threat landscape from synthetic identities and AI-enabled scams to autonomous agents and increasingly sophisticated attacks while also exploring how AI can strengthen organisational defence through intelligent monitoring, anomaly detection, cyber deception and generative AI honeypots.

The session will consider the controls organisations now need around identity, permissions, data, human oversight, monitoring and accountability, and why traditional approaches to technology risk may need to evolve for an increasingly agentic world.
