Compass IT Compliance Managing Partner and Sr. Executive IT Auditor Jerry Hughes will discuss the evolution of data privacy regulations over the past decade. This discussion will explore the key considerations and consequences of various state, federal, and international privacy regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA. Jerry will highlight some of the pain points he commonly encounters when assessing organizations against these regulations. He will also outline the recent release of the NIST Privacy Framework, what it means for organizations, and where to begin. The discussion will go on to discuss the impact that COVID-19 has had on data privacy and life going forward during and after the pandemic.

Jerry Hughes, a founding member of Compass IT Compliance, LLC, has over 35 years of experience helping companies become compliant with internal, industry and government regulations such as PCI-DSS, Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, and GLBA. Mr. Hughes carries numerous industry-leading certifications and has extensive IT auditing experience, especially within the financial and retail sectors. He carries an undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics for Engineers and a minor in Computer Science from the University of Rhode Island. Mr. Hughes is recognized as a thought leader in his field and has been invited to speak at events across the nation on the topics of IT security, compliance, and risk management.
