COVID-19: The "Illusion" of Preparedness

Organizations have been forced to push the envelope and be creative in the way they conduct operations during the COVID-19 crisis. Remote access, employee hardware requirements, and flexible work schedules have altered our expectation of normal. Companies needed to react swiftly to accommodate the situation as it quickly evolved and changed, requiring management teams to adjust response activities in real-time as the scenario unfolded. Many organizations have enhanced preparedness to a new level. However, has the situation created an illusion of preparedness to traditional Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning? This session will explore the incredible strides made in recent weeks, and will discuss the potential false sense of readiness we shouldn’t be fooled by.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Lessons learned in operational adjustments
  2. Identify gaps in planning for the next pandemic
  3. Elements of traditional BCP that didn’t factor in to this pandemic
  4. Things we need to consider to return to normal

Designing an Effective BCP Testing Program

In our work, we find that there is often confusion as to how to develop a multi-year BCP testing program. Organizations are overwhelmed with putting a program in place. Using your Business Impact Analysis can define what the testing program should be without adding unnecessary complexity and negatively impacting efficiency.

Attendees of this presentation will learn:

  1. How to use your BIA to inform your multi-year BCP testing plan
  2. What components should be included and what could be left out
  3. Where to start to get the most effective and manageable program
  4. How to satisfy requirements for incorporating Risk Assessment results into your test plan

**2 CPEs will be granted for attendance**
