Are you Ready for a PCI Audit? : From the evolution of PCI DSS to the challenges one faces during the engagement

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) can be one of the most onerous engagements an auditor ever takes on.  This presentation will focus on the information every auditor should know before beginning their audit.  Together we will dive into the history of PCI DSS, review the overall framework, discuss the importance of merchant levels and types, initial steps to take when beginning a PCI DSS audit, and lessons learned from the field.


Speaker Bio: Kevin Doar - Merchant Services Director, University of Washington 

With one Master’s Degree in History where he studied onsite at public aquariums throughout the country, and a second in Geographic Information Systems, Kevin Doar in realizing he had to find a career, somehow fell into IT auditing. After spending seven years working in Computer Forensics, IT auditing and IT security, Kevin took over as Director of the Office of Merchant Services at the University of Washington in 2017.
During his audit career, managed several large audit projects with the State of Florida and the University of Washington, served as lead computer forensic auditor on numerous investigations, and somehow managed to stumble his way to the CIA and CISA designation. Kevin served on the Board of the Tallahassee, FL ISACA board in 2014-15. In his off time, Kevin loves whale-watching, theatre, the symphony, hiking, and traveling.
