Session I
Topic: The Intersection of AI and Cybersecurity
Gain insight into how the rise of innovative technologies, the introduction of big data, and the expansion of diverse teams have escalated the intricacies of cybersecurity. Learn how the power of AI can equip CIOs and CISOs to achieve more with less, by fostering synergies among people, processes, and technologies. AI can serve as a bridge connecting various facets of a cybersecurity program. These facets include governance, compliance, risk management, change management, incident management, along with SOC, dashboarding and reporting. This session aims to illuminate how AI bolsters cybersecurity programs, empowering them to address risks in real-time and prioritize security-related activities accordingly.
Speaker: Oki Mek, CISO, Federal Civilian Sector, Microsoft
Oki Mek joined Microsoft as Chief Information Security Officer for the Federal Civilian Sector. His civil servant career spans nearly 20 years inside the federal government. Oki is also a veteran of the Army National Guard, who believes in service to others as a personal mission and purpose. Oki previously served as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Equideum Health. In his U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) roles, he served as the first appointed Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO), Acting Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Office of the Secretary, Senior Advisor to the HHS CIO, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Product Officer, and Senior Information Security Manager.

Topic: Understanding and Managing Legal Risks with AI
The benefits of AI are clear but the legal risks are a bit murky and rapidly evolving. Employees are using AI without understanding the potential legal risks of certain uses. Lawsuits, regulatory guidance and regulatory enforcements are increasing and significant new legislation has been passed and more is pending. Join us for a timely discussion on the key legal issues with AI and practical guidance on what companies need to do to manage the legal risks while leveraging AI.
In this presentation, Jim Gatto (who has 20+ years of legal experience with AI) will clarify the key legal issues with AI, explain business risks if not properly managed, provide insights on likely future legal developments and provide specific recommendations on what companies must do now to manage the legal risks with company use of AI. He will also highlight some AI specific issues for financial services and life science companies.
Speaker: Jim Gatto, Partner, Sheppard Mullin
Jim Gatto is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Sheppard Mullin. He is the founder and Co-Leader of the 120+ person Artificial Intelligence Team. He has a strong technical background and over 35 years of business-focused, strategic advice on all aspects of intellectual property, technology transactions and agreements, technology-related regulatory issues and litigation, especially ones driven by new business models and/or disruptive technologies. He has over 20 years of experience helping clients with AI. He handles AI patents and other IP issues, client training, AI policy development, regulatory advice, AI diligence and other issues. He also heads the Open Source team and advises on open source legal issues and policies, including issues with using AI code generators. He is a frequent author, blogger and speaker on AI legal issues, has been an Adjunct Professor at Ole Miss Law School teaching “Legal Issues with AI” and holds leadership positions and/or memberships in AI committees of some leading legal organizations.
