Why We Aren't Getting Better at Cyber Security (and what to do about it)

Presenter: Philip Whitmore, KPMG Cyber Security Partner

While we are improving when it comes to security risk management, most New Zealand organisations do not have a security risk management process, or if they do, it is focused on individual systems.

Philip will discuss where we are now and where we need to get to, including a method to quickly address critical controls to proactively protect your workforce and organisation.

ISACA Topic starting approximately 1:05 to 1:10 pm:

10 years - Reflections on New Zealand

Presenter: Bruce Edwards, Immediate Past President ISACA

Bruce moved to New Zealand from a large U.S. University CISO role and immediately started working in the New Zealand health sector (doing audit and assurance work including IT) for about 5 ½ years. After that he focused on IT and Information Security with Audit New Zealand for another 5+ years. Since he is moving back to the U.S., the board thought it would be good to hear the good, the bad and the ugly regarding these areas and New Zealand InfoSec/IT and InfoSec practice and assurance in what is expected to be the last Wellington ISACA meeting he attends before flying out.

Bruce will also share towards the end of the discussion, an example of his real world experience with an IoT device and lack of user ability to control (glaring security hole anyone?). He confirmed his suspicions (based on the behaviour of the suspect device) with last month’s speaker, (the Chief Security Architect at Vodafone New Zealand).
