Session Synopsis
Transitioning from academics to real-world cybersecurity can be both exciting and challenging. This session explores the gap between classroom theory and the realities of defending against evolving cyber threats, especially in an AI-driven landscape. Drawing on hands-on experience in incident response and threat investigation, it highlights early-career challenges, common misconceptions, and how AI is shaping both attacks and defenses. Attendees will gain practical insights into modern threat environments, essential skills, and the mindset needed to grow and succeed in cybersecurity.

Speaker Bio:
ANJALI KHURANA is an Information Security Support Analyst based in Winnipeg, currently working at Johnston Group Inc. With a strong foundation in computer applications and formal training in information security from Red River College, she brings hands-on experience in incident response, threat analysis, and security operations.
Beyond her technical role, ANJALI KHURANA is deeply passionate about empowering others in cybersecurity. She actively contributes to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives as a committee chair, advocates for workplace equity, and supports knowledge sharing within the community. She is also Security+ certified and committed to continuous learning in the evolving world of cybersecurity and AI.
