Session Overview:

A comparative analysis between what businesses think an IT Auditor should be, what the US Dept of Labor thinks an IT Auditor is, and what IT Auditors self-describe themselves to be. With takeaways on some unique areas to recruit IT Auditors based on overlapping skill sets.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the presentation listeners should be able to:

  • Understand the various perspectives on the skills and role of an IT Auditor
  • Analyze the gaps and overlaps between differing expectations of what an IT Auditor does
  • Develop strategies for effective IT Auditor recruitment in non-traditional business units based on overlapping skill sets.

Michael Podemski is a senior director at Aon leading global internal audit assurance and advisory services in the areas of IT and security risk. He is primarily responsible for independent third line of defense (3LOD) oversight of all IT and security-related audit activities, including managing the day-to-day supervision and guidance of IT audit team members and coordinating, planning, executing, and reporting on audit projects. He provides objective risk-centric assurances with respect to the design and/or operating effectiveness of risk management practices, governance processes, and the system of internal controls associated with IT and security-related audit activities. He also serves on the board of the ISACA® Chicago (Illinois, USA) Chapter assisting with event planning and certification review courses.

Juilee Shinde is an IT and cybersecurity audit expert with over 11 years of experience spanning various sectors including banking, financial services, legal, manufacturing, and healthcare. Juilee possesses comprehensive knowledge of the NIST cybersecurity framework and regulatory requirements such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and Data Privacy regulations. Known for her adeptness in communicating technical concepts to senior management and fostering collaboration, she drives initiatives and strategic changes effectively. Her agility in adopting new technologies is evident through innovative audit reporting formats and the integration of data analytics tools. She also serves on the board of the ISACA Chicago Chapter and is a member of the AICPA Information Systems and Controls Subcommittee.

Andrew Hill is an experienced professional focused on risk management and operational excellence. As an Internal Audit Senior Director at Aon, he oversees audit services of Aon’s shared service capabilities and leads the execution of departmental strategic initiatives.  

As a practitioner, he provides an independent view of risk through a program of assurance and advisory projects while promoting the use of leading-edge audit approaches. He drives Internal Audit strategic development by translating the future state vision of the department into practice, including innovations in core audit processes, the use of data analytics, and stakeholder engagement as well as collaboratively supporting the advancement of Aon’s Enterprise Risk Management program. A CPA and CFE, he also has experience in financial statement audits, operational assessments, and forensic investigations in various industries.
