What is the Security of Critical Infrastructure Legislation, and why all the fuss?

When:  Nov 9, 2021 from 17:30 to 18:30 (ET)
Associated with  Melbourne Chapter
The security of critical infrastructure is a hot topic.

Over 80% of all critical infrastructure resides in private enterprises and not the government. Critical infrastructure provides electricity, clean water, communications, and even food and is not government-owned or controlled.

It all runs on technology. What kind of technology? Primary systems use operational technology (OT), whereas secondary systems use information technology (like Windows), commonly called IT. If it runs on IT or OT; hackers, human error, or mechanical failure can bring it down. The cyber threat landscape is growing in sophistication, with IT and OT as the target.

The Federal government introduced legislation in 2017 to increase their visibility and control of critical infrastructure. The first Bill was simple, and the latest amendment is anything but and brings with it a significant cybersecurity focus. This presentation will explore the differences and describe the current status.”
