PCI 4.0 is slated to take effect in early 2024, replacing 3.2.1 after almost 6 years. Understanding the differences between version 3.2.1 and 4.0 is essential for organizations for whom compliance is a business-critical concern – particularly those who have relied on in-house self-assessments up until now. With the PCI Council’s shift to requiring new targeted risk analyses and offering a customized approach, specialized expertise is now required to decode less detailed guidance. Chris Silvers, CISSP, earned his QSA in 2012 and later his PCIP in 2015, leading many organizations big and small through the certification process.
