Welland Chu is a Cybersecurity Specialist at Thales (cpl.thalesgroup.com) with over 32 years of experience in the security industry. He has led multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust security solutions and conduct independent cybersecurity and privacy assessments for enterprises and government agencies. His expertise spans digital transformation initiatives, including cloud migration, fintech and traditional payment systems, and personal data protection.
In addition to his role at Thales, Welland serves as President of the ISACA China Hong Kong Chapter (https://www.isaca.org/). He is also a member of the Standing Committee on Technological Developments of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (http://www.pcpd.org.hk), Director of the King’s College London Hong Kong Foundation (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/) and the Vice-Chairman of the IT Development Committee of one of the largest NGOs in Hong Kong. Previously, he held advisory positions with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Welland earned his Ph.D. from King’s College London and holds the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Advanced in AI Audit (AAIA), Advanced in AI Security Management (AAISM) credentials. He frequently lectures in postgraduate programs across multiple universities and delivers seminars to public- and private-sector audiences, including international bodies such as INTERPOL.
