Message From the President (2023-2025)

The changes around us - whether political, technological, economic, or otherwise - require that we help our organizations and clients navigate through new and increasingly complex landscapes, which profoundly impact the companies for which we work, our communities, and the profession at large.

As I enter my first year as President of ISACA-OVC, I notice that our Chapter, and the ISACA community at large, has never been more relevant and important for those of us practicing across the nation and world. I've come to think of the ISACA’s network as one very large, multi-national, collaborative team.  A team a team that values learning, teaching, mentorship, and consultation. A team that enables us to advocate, brainstorm, contribute, meet, network and socialize with friends and colleagues.

Each year, we provide our members with opportunities for professional growth spanning a broad array of substantive topics through our programs. These programs are shaped by our volunteer leaders specifically for you. I have always been impressed with the quality and diversity of our programming. And now with our increased focus on interactivity, we provide you with more opportunities to learn by doing - and from each other.

I'm proud of our Chapter's successes over the last year, particularly in providing more opportunities for meaningful engagement of our members and sponsors, introducing innovative programming formats and topics, and providing professional development and outreach opportunities.  In the year ahead, we will continue these initiatives, as well as adding programming designed for the different stages of your career, virtual programming, and events held in collaboration with other chapters in the area and beyond.

To our membership, I would like to underscore the value of actively participating in our community. My experience has been that one can get a lot out of active participation within our community. It was the strong volunteerism and engagement of our community which allowed our chapter to persist throughout the social isolation of the pandemic, where many similar professional associations have closed their doors. I invite all our members to proactively engage with their peers and colleagues as we continue to build upon the strength of our community. There are many opportunities for you to become involved with ISACA-OVC.

Our focus as a chapter is to enrich the experience of our members, so we are always open to feedback on our current services and how we can better serve you. Feel free to reach out to me, any of our chapter leaders, or our great staff if you have ideas or would like to get involved.

Thank you, members, for your continued participation and enthusiasm in our professional community, and sponsors for your incredible support and advice. Finally, I'd like to give a special shout-out of appreciation to our Chapter Board of Directors and to Bob Wiseman, our past-President, for his tireless work, his leadership and outstanding contributions to ISACA-OVC, and to the ISACA organization for all the resources, guidance and support they provide. Thank you all!

I look forward to building on our momentum together in 2024 and beyond!

Best regards,
Steve Lavergne
President

ISACA OVC PRESIDENT'S NOTE (2022-2023)

Greetings Members of the ISACA Ottawa Valley Chapter,

Here is to a bright 2022-2023, with new successful opportunities. As we slowly exit the COVID crisis, we are in a new world with high inflation, numerous unfilled jobs, and working from home. Last year was a super year with many virtual professional events and we led and co-hosted the virtual 3rd Digital Transformation in Government Conference with 55 speakers and at least 21 CPEs for attendees. Numerous presentations on ISACA were given at academic institutions and we welcomed the new CDSPE practitioners. In fact we broke the 600 member mark, a notable goal for the chapter. The executive pulled together to provide services to our members, and at the Annual General Meeting, we added three new volunteers.

In this trying time, the need for IT governance, audit, cyber-security, risk management, and privacy has never been more important. ISACA certifications are more relevant than ever.

For the 2022/2023 new year we have several goals for the local chapter that your executive is putting in place.

  • First we want to promote the ISACA brand and certifications so that they are ubiquitous in RFPs incentivizing individuals to get them and join the chapter.
  • Second, we want to provide value to members. Aside from brand promotion, we are using membership dues to bring the members valuable professional seminars and a full set of annual CPEs.
  • Third we are collaborating with other professional associations to provide joint monthly seminars and to host a Digital Transformation in Government (DTiG) Conference. Last year we had 55 Speakers from all over the globe. This year we are planning the 4th DTiG conference 13-15 June 2023 as a hybrid conference at UOttawa. From a governance perspective we are trying to reduce the digital transformation project failure rate from 90%.
  • Fourth we are rejuvenating our membership by reaching out to both students and members of other professional associations.
  • Fifth the highly experienced certification directors are reaching out to help people with certification exams preparation and career advice. They are a valuable asset and I recommend that members take advantage of them. They are more than willing to help and mentor.

I would personally like to thank the executive for their outstanding work and effort and we are all looking forward to a challenging year ahead. From the membership, we are always looking for new ideas and volunteers. Please feel free to drop us a note.

Looking forward to a great year and a return to a new normalcy.

Cheers

Bob
