October Chapter Meeting

When:  Oct 25, 2018 from 11:30 to 15:30 (MT)
Associated with  Phoenix Chapter

Topic: Legal Issues in Information Security

Topic 1: A Roadmap to Internet Crime Presenter: Bill Curd

In a fast-paced talk, we will start with some quick disclaimers due to the nature of the topic, an overview of the Internet, how search engines work, some protections, and how tor works. Then, we will explore prominent Dark Web (.onion) marketplaces, where literally anything may be bought and sold -- how to access, search, and navigate there - but you will be warned against doing more than looking, and NOT shown how to do so safely.  Then as time permits, you will see some snippets of diving much deeper! Jihadists, malicious nation-state actors, and APTs. The talk will be redacted to PG-13 with minimal graphic images - suitable for high school and older who understand web browsing.

Dr. Bill Curd has been a pioneer in cyber security and related disciplines within global high-tech enterprises for decades.  As President of Synesys Group, he is an invited instructor, speaker, and consultant in cyber security and privacy, professional effectiveness, CYBINT techniques, and national security and geopolitical matrix - perhaps best known for his highly evaluated CISSP boot camps.  At Honeywell, he was lead security analyst and compliance focal for systems running SAP globally with 59,000 users processing over $35B in business.  Previously, Bill was Manager of Systems Integration and Security, Aerospace Electronic Systems, the information Security Officer (CISO equivalent) for 15 years, and a (deputy) Network and Data Security Officer for all of Honeywell.  Dr. Curd attended ten colleges, earning four degrees including a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, and has numerous professional certifications and affiliations.  Please join Bill Curd's network of 12,000 professionals on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/billcurd
