About Our ISACA Chapter

ISACA Trinidad & Tobago Chapter

Welcome to the ISACA Trinidad & Tobago Chapter. The Chapter was started in December 1986 by Lennox Brown with the support of his professional colleagues who were principally MSc. Accounting graduates from the University of The West Indies.

The inspiration for starting the local chapter was sparked in 1983 by a research paper that Lennox Brown was writing as part of his MSc. Accounting requirements. The research paper evaluated the state of “EDP Auditing” in the Trinidad and Tobago external auditing environment. During his research he discovered the “EDP Auditors Association”, (Now ISACA), whose membership was focused on the practice of EDP Auditing. Mr. Brown requested that he take the CISA exam under the supervision of the UWI and passed the exam in 1987. Mr. Brown was the first Caribbean national to pass the exam outside the US and this was the first time that the exam was held in the Caribbean and possibly outside the USA at that time.

The Chapter started with approximately 10 members, the majority of whom made up the 1st ever Board. ISACA (previously the Information Systems Audit and Control Association) is a worldwide association of IS governance professionals. The association currently focuses on assurance, security, and governance and provides globally recognised certification in assurance (Certified Information Systems Auditor), security (Certified Information Security Manager), and governance (Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT). The association is one of individual members, often the sole practitioner of information systems auditing, security, and/or governance in his or her company.

The membership of the ISACA reflects a multiplicity of backgrounds and skills that make the information systems governance field challenging and dynamic. This chapter is run by volunteers who are ISACA members nominated through ISACA Annual General Meeting (AGM).

ISACA members' participations in running the chapter is highly encouraged.
