About Our ISACA Chapter

The South Carolina Midlands Chapter is headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina. Training opportunities are presented throughout the year and are open to members and non-members.


PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES

The primary purpose of the chapter is to promote the education of the individual for the improvement and development of his/her capabilities relating to the auditing of and/or management consulting in, or direct management of the fields of IT Governance, IS Audit, security, control and assurance.


More specifically, the objectives of the chapter are:

1.  To promote the education of and help expand the knowledge and skills of its members in interrelated fields of IT Governance, IS Auditing, Security, Risk Management and Cybersecurity.

2.  To encourage an open exchange of Information Technology (IT) Governance, IS Audit, security control and assurance techniques, approaches, and problem solving by its members.

3.  To provide adequate communication to keep members abreast of current events in IT Governance, IS Auditing, Security, Risk Management and Cybersecurity, which can be beneficial to them and their employers.

4.  To communicate to Management, to Systems and IT professionals, and to Universities the importance of establishing controls necessary to ensure effective organization and utilization of Information Technology Resources.

5.  To promoter the Association's professional certifications and IT Governance.

Todd Wilkins
An experienced IT and audit professional, Todd has worked at several state agencies working across multiple technological and auditing disciplines cultivating a diverse skill set ranging from software development, database management, team building, and auditing. With determination and persistence at the helm, he helped establish an IT audit function for two state agencies. Todd is currently at SCDOT and actively engaging the business and IT to promote and cultivate an IT governance culture focused on COBIT.

Kurt Hazel, CISA, CISSP

Kurt has over 30 years of technical experience spanning roles that cover almost every aspect there is in IT. His passion comes from connecting people with technology and growing careers. He is currently the Director of Information Security at Security Finance.

 

Secretary

Brian Kelley, CISA, CDPSE, CSPO, MCSE, Security+, TOGAF, Microsoft SQL Server MVP (2009-16)

Brian Kelley is an author, columnist, Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE), accredited CISA trainer, TOGAF 9 certified architect, and former Microsoft Data Platform (SQL Server) MVP (2009-2016) focusing on Microsoft Azure, SQL Server and Windows security. Brian currently serves as an enterprise architect covering cloud, data, infrastructure, and security. He has served in a myriad of other positions including senior database administrator/architect, data warehouse architect, web developer, incident response team lead, and project manager. He is a regular columnist for the ISACA Journal writing on Digital Trust, as well as an author at MSSQLTips.com. Brian is a frequent speaker on Microsoft SQL Server, security, and audit topics and has presented at the PASS Data Summit, IT/Dev Connections, SQL Connections, and the Techno Security and Digital Forensics Conference.

Edward Zimmer, CPA, CISA, CITP, CISSP

Eddie is a Manager of IT Assurance Services with a local CPA firm in Columbia, SC. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and is a licensed CPA in the state of South Carolina. His audit experience includes servicing clients operating in the fields of manufacturing, telecommunications, distribution, construction, real estate, power production, captive insurance and management, and emergency communications. His passion is assisting clients in meeting their compliance goals, and performing examinations for those already compliant.

An experienced accomplished Auditor in the following industries utilities, manufacturing, financial services, pharmaceutical and public accounting.  Performing SOX engagements, Risk Assessments, Cybersecurity Maturity Assessments and IT General Controls Audits and Assessments.  

Working passionately to mitigate deficient controls with training and educating control owners.

Kareem Briggs, C|CISO, CISA, CRISC, CISM, CDPSE

Kareem currently works as an Information Technology Security Officer for a not-for-profit healthcare system. He has over 25 years of Information Technology experience where he has had roles in security management, audit, information assurance, data security administration, network support, desktop support and helpdesk support. Kareem possesses a Bachelor's Degree in Information Management from the University of South Carolina and a Master's Degree in Computer Resources and Information Management from Webster University where he focused on Information Security.  Kareem has been the webmaster for the SC Midlands Chapter since 2008.

Audra Woods

Audra is employed as an IT auditor at a local insurance company located in Columbia, South Carolina. She holds certifications as a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and a CompTIA Security+ certified professional. Audra has over 25 years of experience in the Information Technology industry. She has experience in systems support administration, desktop support, computer operations, software development, configuration management, auditing, and cybersecurity risk management. Audra holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Computer Information Systems, as well as a Master of Science degree in Information Systems with an emphasis on Software Engineering Management. She has served on the board since 2016.

Harriet Simpson, CPA/CITP, CISA, CRISC, CTGA, CFE

Harriet has over thirty years of experience in public accounting, providing auditing, data processing services, IT auditing and compliance reviews primarily to financial institution clients.  She is the primary owner of Simpson & Associates, LLC public accounting firm.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Master of Accountancy from the University of South Carolina.  Harriet is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (SCACPA), the Information Systems Audit & Control Association ISACA), and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).  She and her husband, Ted, reside in Columbia.

Leighton Johnson, CISA, CISM, CRISC, CGEIT, CDPSE, CSX-F, CAC, COBIT 2019

Leighton is the CTO of ISFMT (Information Security Forensics Management Team), a provider of computer security & forensics consulting and certification training, and has presented computer security, cyber security and forensics lectures, conference presentations and seminars all across the United States, Asia and Europe. He is also the founder and CEO of Chimera Security, a research and development company delving into the realms of cryptography, Blockchain, mobile technology and cloud computing to create better and more secure solutions for today’s advanced users and providers. He has over 40 years’ experience in Computer Security, Cyber Security, Software Development and Communications Equipment Operations & Maintenance spanning the industries of retail, government, defense industrial base, banking, and information technology.  He retains many professional security certifications, including CISA, CISM, CDSPE, COBIT 2019, CGEIT, ISO 27001 LI/LA, CSX-F, CAC, ISO 27005 LRM and CRISC and has taught certification, risk management, forensics and auditing courses around the world over the past 18 years. He a designated HQ ISACA Accredited Trainer for all certifications and certificate courses.

Sheila is a seasoned manager and skilled trainer with over 25 years of leadership and management experience across public and private sectors. Her expertise spans retail, consulting, finance, technology, and church-education. 
With a strong emphasis on people, education, and processes, Sheila is dedicated to enhancing organizational effectiveness. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership, two Master's degrees—one in Management and another in Information Technology Management—and a Doctorate in Business Administration.
Sheila's commitment lies in ensuring that individuals have access to the necessary resources—whether knowledge, guidance, tools, or emotional support—at the right time to achieve success. Currently, she is engaged in the public sector, where she continues to make a significant impact.
