Dear Members,

The ISACA Auckland Chapter is pleased to announce our next lunchtime networking event, to be held on the afternoon of the 26th of July 2023.

Topic

Navigating Organisational Shifts and Building Resilience: Challenges and Opportunities for Business Leaders in a Volatile World

Join us for an insightful panel discussion which is based on McKinsey’s State of Organizations 2023 report, an ongoing research initiative that both pinpoints the most important people, procedural, and structural shifts that organizations are grappling with and seeks to provide some ideas and suggestions about how to approach them.

In this highly volatile and uncertain environment, business leaders have been grappling with a series of unprecedented challenges, addressing not only the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic but also a range of organisational shifts that have significant implications for structures, processes, and people.

The shifts include complex questions about how to organise for speed to shore up resilience, find the right balance between in-person and remote work models, address employees’ declining mental health, and build new institutional capabilities at a time of rapid technological change, among others.

During this panel, our esteemed leaders will delve into the multifaceted nature of these challenges and the opportunities they present. They will shed light on some of the strategies they have used to navigate during uncertain times.

Panellists

Josh Bahlman

Chief Information Security Officer and General Manager Technology Strategy and Architecture, Spark

When footage from the Christchurch terror event started spreading online in March 2019, Josh Bahlman and his team were on the case, tracking down the content and sharing the information with other ISPs to stop its spread. It’s not the everyday work of a CISO, but for Bahlman, Spark General Manager of Technology Strategy and Architecture and CISO of Spark Group (which includes Spark NZ, CCL, Leaven, Qrious, MATTR, Digital Island and Entelar) it’s just part and parcel of his varied – and busy – life.

Bahlman heads up one of New Zealand’s largest cyber defence team, with more than 100 IT, network and cybersecurity experts at Spark, protecting the vast Spark network infrastructure and the businesses and individual Kiwis using Spark’s services. His role in helping shut down the spread of the terrorist videos – taking unprecedented steps while government policy and processes were still being developed – was one example of the ‘quick, decisive action’ which recently saw Bahlman named New Zealand’s Best Security Leader at the 2021 iSANZ Information Security Awards.

Bahlman’s Technology Strategy and Architecture team is focused on designing and building New Zealand’s smartest, fastest and future fit networks. The Technology Strategy and Architecture team builds the network strategy for the future and enables us to deliver on strategic programs of work such as 5G standalone network capability.
