About Our Chapter

Welcome to the ISACA Ottawa Valley Chapter

The aim of the Chapter is to sponsor local educational seminars and workshops, conduct regular chapter meetings, and help to further promote and elevate the visibility of the IS audit, control and security profession throughout the region.

ISACA (previously the Information Systems Audit and Control Association) is a worldwide association of IS governance professionals. The association focuses on assurance, security, and governance and provides globally recognised certification in assurance (Certified Information Systems Auditor), security (Certified Information Security Manager), and governance (Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT).

ISACA OTTAWA PRESIDENT'S NOTE (2019-2020)

It is with pleasure that the ISACA executive and myself personally thank-you for your trust and we are preparing for a great year.

This year the theme will be “ISACA And” as we look forward to working with other professional organizations with the aim of making ISACA relevant and the standards integrated with their offerings. Synergy with other organizations such as IIA, AEA, PMI, ITSM, ISSA can only strengthen all of our offerings. There are several initiatives that we look forward to pursuing as follows:

  • For CPEs, the intent is to provide members with inexpensive seminars and conferences to maintain their professional competence. We forecast 6 x 2 CPE seminars during the year as well as a three-day digital transformation in government conference in May/June to provide interesting world-class speakers, networking opportunities and 21 CPEs, all in Ottawa.
  • For employment opportunities, this year we will begin working with tech contracting companies with standing offers to help get your next contract.
  • Academically we will continue and expand our outreach to the local universities and colleges to improve ISACA awareness, integrate ISACA content into the curricula as well as recruit new members.
  • Certification Directors on the board will continue to support those getting ready to write the CISA, CRISC, CGEIT, CISM and CSX exams through tutorials and advice in general. They are a gifted resource and I would strongly recommend members use them to ensure that the certification process is as rewarding and painless as possible.
  • From a training perspective, the intent is to subsidize and provide a COBIT (2 days – 14 CPEs), a CSX Foundations (2 days – 14 CPEs) and EA Using TOGAF course (5 Days - 28 CPEs) in both the fall and spring quarters. Members are strongly requested to support these training initiatives.

In closing this is shaping up to be a super year and we have a dedicated executive to make it happen. As always, the support and participation of the membership is tantamount. Please feel free to contact Steven, Jean-Luc or myself at rweisman@uottawa.ca if you have any comments, ideas or wish to help out, especially with the June Conference. Again thank-you for your trust and I look forward to serving you this year as president.
