Soft Skills Workshop - 15th Jan 2020
The world of work is changing forever. The concept of working for one employer, in one office, with one set of colleagues is becoming obsolete. Today, you may not have an employer, you may not have an office, and you may never even see your colleagues who could be anywhere in the world.
Agile, remote working, Zoom, stress, mobile phone, robotics, AI and Cloud, represent the world of work today, as much as the bowler hat, clocking in and out, the tea lady and the typing pool once used to.
This requires a different mindset, where we need to be flexible, and work well with others. It is not good enough to have sound technical skills, you also need a complementary set of Soft Skills, and be aware of Emotional Intelligence, Emotional Labour, DISC Personality Indicator, Diversity awareness, Non-Verbal Communication, and you will need to build and work with teams that span the globe.
Research conducted by Harvard University, the Carnegie Foundation and Stanford Research Center concluded that 85% of job success came from having well‐developed soft and people skills, and only 15% of job success comes from technical skills and knowledge (hard skills).
On the 15th January, ISACA London Chapter kicked off the year with a Skills Workshop, followed by drinks and networking.
The event was kicked off with a keynote speech by Deepinder Chhabra, ISACA London Chapter President. During the four hour workshop participants got to hear from several speakers about: the importance of soft skills; the skills shortage; future of work; review of the job market; and tips on moving into Cyber Security. This was followed by a panel discussion chaired by Ken Spence (ILC Past President) on various soft skills.
We would like to thank Verizon for hosting the event, and everyone who attended. We would also like to thank the following presenters and panelists: Kamal Khan (ISACA London Chapter Director), Claire Tillotson (Hays); Monica Meade (JP Morgan), Zuzana Bitter (BITTER Solutions); Emin Caliskan (Feltsecure Labs Ltd); Peter Meehan (IQ4); James Morris (NDK InfoSec); and Tejjashree Rao (Natwest Markets). Sanjay Sharma and Monica Meade did an excellent job as Masters of Ceremony.
