Annual General Meeting

The ISACA Malta Chapter held its Annual General Meeting at SmartCity Malta on the 5th July 2018.


The following were the elected Directors on the Board for the year 2018/2019:

At a subsequent meeting of the Board, Ms Rebekah Duca was elected President, Mr Christopher Bugeja as Vice President, Ms Shana Micallef as Secretary and Mr Kenneth Farrugia as Treasurer.

The new Board wishes to welcome a new volunteer, Mr Keith Matthew Borg, as well as thank Mr Vladimiro Comodini, Ms Liana DeBattista and Mr Bernard Farrugia, outgoing Board Members, for their valuable contribution towards the Chapter during the past years.

The AGM was followed by an informal networking event at the Londoner Pub in SmartCity. This event gave members the opportunity to network with fellow professionals whilst enjoying some drinks and nibbles offered by the Chapter.

We're proud to announce the launch of our new website. We hope you like our new look which is designed to make it easier to find the information that you are looking for. In particular, we hope you like the feel of the design which is specifically intended to be easy to navigate and to reflect our forward thinking and modern approach. The site is now compatible with modern tablets and smart phones to allow you to keep in touch while on the move.


Educational Programme 2018 / 2019

The Chapter is excited to announce its educational programme for the upcoming term.

The programme was designed to be aligned with ISACA’s four main focus areas, namely: Assurance, Risk, Governance and Cybersecurity. Further information shall be distributed via email closer to the date of each event.
The upcoming event, which shall take place on the 18th October, will focus on tHow to get the Recognition you Deserve. Those interested can register for the event by following this link.

Biennial Conference - Cybersecurity: Securing our Future

The numbers of threats, risk scenarios and vulnerabilities have grown exponentially. Cybersecurity has evolved as a new field of interest, gaining political and societal attention. Given this magnitude, the future tasks and responsibilities associated with cybersecurity are essential to organisational survival and profitability. During the Malta Chapter biennial conference the six foreign speakers aimed to present cybersecurity trends, risks and challenges, focusing not just on the ones currently faced by local and international organisations, but also on disruptive trends that will soon hit the mass markets, including Cyber Espionage, IoT, Augmented Reality, BlockChain, GDPR and Privacy requirements, Cyberwar, AI, and so on.

Educational Events

April 19th - Understanding the Threat Picture and Risk Landscape Aligned to your Business

Mr Michael Glyn Davison, CISM, MBCS CITP a highly experienced Senior Information Security Manager and Security Risk Professional specialising in Governance, Risk and Compliance of confidential high value business services, he discussed the comprehensive Threat Picture and Risk Landscape associated with business enterprise and the fundamental factors of managing Security Risk effectively to address the exponential Threats aligned to the organisation. Mr Davison, examined key methodologies to provide an augmented view of how a well-defined threat modelling strategy can define risk and the required controls to protect high value business assets.


May 17th - The General Data Protection Regulation: An Introduction

Dr Michele Tufigno is an associate at Gatt Tufigno Gauci Advocates, during the seminar, Dr Tufigno provided an introduction to the fundamental principles of GDPR as well as added focused on matters of security, integrity and the role of the controller, the processor and the Data Protection Officer within organizations and entities regularly processing personal data within the Maltese and wider European context.


Unfunded Conference


Giannella Borg Webmaster, Communications and Marketing Coordinator and Matthew Ward - Academic Relations Coordinator, attended the ISACA European Leadership Conference in Edinburgh, between May 26th and 27th.  The main theme of the conference revolved around how the various European ISACA chapters can provide better value to their members. One of the focus areas tackled the provision of courses & training to members at heavily discounted prices. ISACA HQ are also currently working hard to meet GDPR requirements.
