Description:

The AAIA Exam Item Development Working Group (EIDWG) is designated to support exam item development for ISACA’s AAIA (Advanced in AI Audit) certification program. Members of the working group are responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of the questions posed on the AAIA certification exam. 

Anticipated outcomes:

The working group will support the exam item development process as follows:

  • Each working group member is required to submit 10 items (exam questions) in English for each item writing campaign.
  • Review and revise (as necessary) exam items (questions) submitted by item writers.
  • Determine whether reviewed items should be approved for inclusion in future exams, or if items should be returned to item writers.
  • Provide constructive feedback for items being returned to item writers.
  • Review or assign rubrics from the Exam Content Outline to approved exam items.
  • As needed, review items flagged for poor performance and revise as applicable.
  • All work is conducted confidentially and may not be shared or discussed outside the working group members and ISACA staff.

Time Commitment:
Volunteers should expect to spend approximately 2 hours per month on average, with time commitment increasing in the month(s) preceding the meeting for item writing and item file pre-review. AAIA EIDWG meetings are typically scheduled at 2-day intervals, 8:00 am-5:00 pm Central time, once per term. Attendance required.

  • In-person and/or virtual meeting(s): Attendance is required at one EIDWG meeting per term.
    • The next meeting is tentatively planned to be conducted in-person on 13-14 November 2025, from 8:00 am-5:00 pm US Central Time in the Chicago, IL area. Travel expenses are paid by ISACA.
    • Ad hoc sessions to review items flagged for poor testing performance will be scheduled as needed. These sessions will be conducted virtually.  
    • If you foresee difficulties participating due to time zone differences or travel restraints, kindly refrain from applying.
    • The number of meetings and location could change based on business requirements.

Volunteer criteria/composition needed:

  • Current ISACA membership.
  • Members must already hold the certification (AAIA) for the Exam Item Development Working Group they serve on.
  • Knowledge and experience in two or more core domain areas required.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking) required for productive group discussion.
  • Item writing experience preferred.
  • Geographic area representation considered.
  • 10-15 volunteers will be appointed based on the needs of the business.

The application may be closed early depending on the number of applications received. Not all who apply will be selected based on needed volunteer representation.

 Volunteer benefits: 

  • Up to 10 CPE credits (max 20 annually) in the area of Working on ISACA Boards / Committees / Working Groups upon successful completion of the required tasks and meetings at the end of the term.
  • Working group members will also receive CPEs based on the time spent during the face-to-face meeting on formal review of exam items. Evidence of actual hours earned for the formal review process will be provided to working group members.


AAIA Working Group members may not teach an AAIA review course or develop AAIA training materials for a period of 3 years following the last date of service on the Working Group.
