Description:

The Chapter Formation Task Force has the important responsibility of reviewing a chapter formation proposal submitted to ISACA. Its role is to help determine whether the proposed chapter can be a viable and sustainable local entity for ISACA that will benefit local members and the greater profession.

Anticipated Outcomes:

ISACA chapters exist to serve the professional and educational needs of the membership and to successfully enhance local awareness of ISACA’s role in the professions it serves. It is vital for those wishing to form a chapter to have a fundamental understanding of the association as a whole, the products and services it provides and the benefits it offers to its members. ISACA chapters work closely with ISACA Global to provide a strong level of support and maintain a consistent standard for all members worldwide.

In response to a proposal for a new chapter, a team of volunteers is assembled to review and evaluate the proposal. They will then recommend whether establishing a chapter in the proposed area would benefit ISACA and the local members. These individuals will work closely with ISACA Chapter Experience staff during the review process.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to share their opinions, provide feedback, and offer unique perspectives during the review process. Ultimately, they will play a crucial role in approving or denying the formation of a new ISACA chapter.

The specific responsibilities of the volunteers include:

  • Reviewing the Chapter Formation Application, which includes the proposed chapter name, territory, reasons for wanting to form, local market analysis, membership growth potential, governance, and financial details, and planned educational events.
  • Reviewing submitted chapter bylaws outlining the purpose, objectives, activities, and governance structure of the proposed chapter.
  • Analyzing a detailed budget for the proposed chapter’s first three years of operation.
  • Evaluating a SWOT analysis describing the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats to establishment and sustainability as a chapter.
  • Determining whether there are enough members in the proposed area from diverse industries and companies to ensure the chapter’s sustainability.

Volunteer Criteria:

  • Must be a current member of ISACA.
  • Must have served as a leader of an ISACA chapter for at least 2 years.
  • Must have experience in running an ISACA chapter, which includes organizing local educational events, conducting regular chapter meetings, and promoting and increasing the visibility of ISACA.
  • Should have a basic understanding of the association as a whole, its products and services, and the benefits it provides to its members.
  • Should have a working knowledge of ISACA policies, chapter policies, and other relevant information necessary for running a chapter.
  • Should have a general understanding of the local economy, politics, laws, and regulations in their region to assist in determining the viability of a proposed chapter.

Volunteer Benefits:

  • Up to 5 CPE credits (max. 20 annually) in the area of “Working on ISACA Boards/Committees/Working Groups” upon successful completion of the proposal review.
  • Contribute to expanding the important network of ISACA chapters.
  • Guide, support, and mentor peers in the growth of local chapters.
