About the Chapter Maturity Model: As volunteers who have dynamic careers and personal lives, being engaged as an ISACA chapter leader is truly a labor of love, and we want to make your experience as inspiring and meaningful as possible. Having the tools to fully engage with your chapter and work toward its full potential will help make your many volunteer hours as worthwhile and satisfying as possible. To this end, ISACA is piloting a Chapter Maturity Model – a framework designed especially for you to assess your chapter’s operations and create a roadmap to reach your full potential.

Pilot Volunteer Term: 6 Months

  • November ’22 – Kick-Off*
  • December ’22 – No Commitments
  • January ’23 – April ’23 Chapter Maturity Model Pilot Implementation*

*Schedule is still being finalized

Estimated Time Commitment: ~2 Hours/Month

  • 1 Monthly project meeting
  • Ad hoc coordination with ISACA global and individual project work

Anticipated Outcomes:

  • Pilot and stress-testing of a new maturity model
  • Constructive criticism to improve the maturity model and its implementation
  • Specific, measurable improvement across 8 focus areas
  • Success use-cases to inform further implementation of the maturity model

Volunteer Benefits:

  • Up to 20 CPE credits (max. 20 annually) in the area of ‘working on ISACA Boards/Committees/Working Groups’ upon successful completion of the term
  • Influencing the next generation of chapter leadership resources


Chapter Maturity Pilot SMEs: Improving chapter maturity requires growth and evolution across 8 focus areas. None of these areas stand alone; rather, they reinforce and enable each other. For the pilot, we are seeking a chapter with chapter leaders (present or past) with subject matter expertise that aligns the 8 focus areas:

  1. Dispensing Knowledge – to help members gain knowledge the way they want to gain knowledge
  2. Boosting Recognition – to help members get recognized as impactful members of a global association
  3. Cultivating Impact – to help members make an impact when they get involved
  4. Managing Operations – to prioritize resources and optimize operations of the chapter
  5. Monitoring Governance – to empower the chapter to achieve its mission, vision, and objective
  6. Enabling Improvement – to meet the needs of the chapter’s regional and local digital trust community
  7. Advocating Relevancy – to ensure the chapter is relevant to local academia and government
  8. Assessing Performance – to determine where to invest time, money, and resources

Additionally, we are seeking a local coordinator to help synchronize efforts amongst the chapter and with global.

Desired Subject Matter Expertise

  • Learning & Certification SME, pertaining to Dispensing Knowledge: ISACA helps business and organizations, teams and groups, and individuals gain knowledge (the way they want to gain knowledge) to improve their level of performance and professional capabilities.
    • Intent: Dispense knowledge to individuals or members toward a certification or certificate, to maintain certification or certificates, and to keep up to date on industry insights and trends.
    • Goal: Members’ personal and professional development is proactively supported through regular training and education opportunities. The content is informed by regular feedback from members. A long-term learning strategy has been developed.

  • Community Building SME, pertaining to Boosting Recognition: ISACA helps teams, groups and individuals get recognized as knowledgeable and impactful members of a global association of professionals in pursuit of digital trust.
    • Intent: Delivered a heightened experience to acknowledge community member’s accomplishments, contributions, milestones, and loyalty.
    • Goal: Personal and professional accomplishments and milestones are proactively and routinely acknowledged. The acknowledgement is accurate, timely, relevant, personalized, regionally significant, and takes extenuating circumstances into consideration.

  • Volunteer Coordination SME, pertaining to Cultivating Impact: ISACA helps teams, groups and individuals get recognized as knowledgeable and impactful members of a global association of professionals in pursuit of digital trust.
    • Intent: Delivered a heightened experience to acknowledge community member’s accomplishments, contributions, milestones, and loyalty.
    • Goal: Personal and professional accomplishments and milestones are proactively and routinely acknowledged. The acknowledgement is accurate, timely, relevant, personalized, regionally significant, and takes extenuating circumstances into consideration.

  • Operations Management SME, pertaining to Managing Operations: ISACA empowers chapter leaders to optimize operations of the chapter to distribute knowledge, boost recognition, and cultivate impact more effectively and efficiently.
    • Intent: Systematically direct, plan, implement, support, and evaluate the deployment of products, services, and experiences.
    • Goal: Operational processes to support the systematic delivery of products, services, and experiences are implemented, organized, supported, monitored, and routinely assessed.

  • Governance SME, pertaining to Monitoring Governance: ISACA empowers chapter leaders to monitor governance of the chapter to achieve for its mission, vision, and objective.
    • Intent: Integrated industry standards, guidance, regulations, and best practices unique to your chapter and your region.
    • Goal: Governance structures, principles, processes, and practices to achieve the mission, vision, and purpose are implemented, organized, supported, monitored, and routinely assessed.

  • Strategy and/or Innovation SME, pertaining to Enabling Improvement: ISACA enables chapter leaders to improve the chapter to meet the needs of their regional and local digital trust community.
    • Intent: Manage and implement the continuous performance improvement of processes and infrastructure to meet chapter objectives by identifying and implementing the most beneficial process improvements and making performance results visible, accessible, and sustainable.
    • Goal: Routine chapter strategy planning sessions are held to set goals aligned with local and global ISACA initiatives and are informed by proactive member feedback.

  • Advocacy SME, pertaining to Advocating Relevance: ISACA enables chapter leaders to advocate for ISACA’s role as the standard-bearer of digital trust to increase ISACA’s value and ensure the chapter and its members are relevant to local and regional academia and government.
    • Intent: Increase ISACA’s relevance, improve ISACA’s reputation, and bring value to ISACA products.
    • Goal: Significant, complementary relationships with regional and local academia, government, and/or corporations are formalized, have common goals, have ownership, and there are plans to maintain and improve the relationships
    • Market Research SME, pertaining to Assessing Performance: ISACA enables chapter leaders to assess performance of the chapter to meet the needs of their regional and local digital trust community
      • Intent: Determine where to invest time, money, and resources.
      • Goal: Success metrics for satisfaction and growth are high performing and centered on regional, local, and individual member needs.

    • Local Project Coordinator to centralize communications locally and synchronize with the ISACA staff facilitators.
      • Intent: Reduce administrative burden on the SMEs.
      • Goal: Capture and systematize the ‘in between’ and synthesize pilot activities and operations into good or preferred practices for future implementations.
