Description:

The Chapter Formation Task Force has the important responsibility of reviewing a chapter formation proposal submitted to ISACA and to help determine whether the proposed chapter can be a viable and sustainable local entity for ISACA that will benefit local members and the greater profession.

Anticipated outcomes:

ISACA chapters exist to serve the professional and educational needs of the membership and to successfully enhance local awareness of ISACA’s role in the professions it serves. It is vital for those wishing to form a chapter to have a fundamental understanding of the association as a whole, the products and services it offers and the benefits to its members. ISACA chapters work closely with ISACA Global to provide a strong level of support and to provide a consistent standard to all members worldwide.

To that end, upon receipt of a proposal for a new chapter, a group of volunteers is identified to review and analyze the proposal. They will recommend whether or not it is in the best interest of ISACA and the local members to form a chapter in a proposed area. These individuals will work closely with ISACA Chapter Relations staff during the review process.

The specific responsibilities of the volunteers include:

  • Reviewing the Chapter Formation Application that includes proposed chapter name and territory, reasons for wanting to form a chapter, local market analysis, membership growth potential, governance and financial details, and planned educational events;
  • Reviewing submitted chapter bylaws outlining the purpose, objectives, activities and governance structure of the proposed chapter;
  • Analyzing a detailed budget for the proposed chapter’s first three years of operation;
  • Reviewing a SWOT analysis describing the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats to opening and sustaining a chapter; and
  • Determining if there are enough members in the proposed area from diverse industries and companies to assure a chapter is sustainable.

Volunteer Criteria:

  • Current ISACA Membership;
  • Must have served a minimum of 2 years as a leader of an ISACA chapter;
  • Experience running an ISACA chapter including organizing local educational events, conducting regular chapter meetings, and promoting and elevating the visibility of ISACA;
  • A fundamental understanding of the association as a whole, the products and services it offers, and the benefits to its members;
  • A working knowledge of ISACA policies, chapter policies, and other pertinent information necessary for running a chapter;
  • General understanding of the local economy, politics, laws and regulations in your region to assist in determining the viability of a proposed chapter.

Volunteer benefits:

  • Up to 5 CPE credits (max. 20 annually) in the area of “Working on ISACA Boards/Committees/Working Groups” upon successful completion of the proposal review.
  • Assist with growing the important network of ISACA chapters.
  • Guide, support and mentor peers in the development of local chapters.
